THE MOVER OF MOUNTAINS.

The weather that afternoon was as if hell had unleashed on earth, my wife just returned from the market with my 3 year old daughter. I had spent the entire day revising and worrying about my interview at the shell company. I was nervous, I heard only 2 people might get hired amongst thousands applying. I have always been the smart one, the top of the class but that doesn’t count when it comes to getting hired for a job. I pray 5 times daily with extra supplications, I believe God is hearing me but I really need to see his hand in my life. This is the 20th interview I will be going for, all replied with the same ‘I’m sorry this,I’m sorry that……” but I can’t lose hope, not now.

‘Daddy Daddy!’ My daughter, Fatima said as she jumped into my arms thereby interrupting me from my deep thoughts.

‘Oh my little princess, what did you buy at the market?’

‘Daddy, I wanted to buy some sweets but mum kept saying ‘No it would make you poop’, so we only got pepper, meat and vegetables.’ Fatima reported as I sat down and placed her on my lap.

‘Don’t mind mummy, the next time you and I go out, I will buy you all the sweets you want.’ I said as Fatima smiled and stared at me thoughtfully.

‘Daddy?’ Fatima called.

‘Yes princess.’ I answered.

‘ Mummy said you are very very very brilliant, is that true?.’ Fatima asked

‘Yes that is true dear.’ I replied as I wondered what my daughter was up to.

‘Daddy what the young one of a Lion called?’ Fatima asked.

I burst into laughter for I couldn’t bring myself to recollect what it was then I said to her, ‘My princess you see Daddy is very very very brilliant but you are very very very very very very brilliant, so why don’t you teach daddy.’

‘Okay daddy, I’ll be happy to be your teacher.’ Fatima said as she went to get her book and she continued talking ‘First, daddy the baby Lion is called a Cub’.

We spent over an hour learning the names of various animals and their young ones.

The next day we woke up to a very loud noise at the door. I opened and it was the caretaker, with our final eviction notice. I almost burst into tears, my family can not be homeless. Getting this job is my lifeline and the chances of me getting it is so slim.

My wife is soaked in faith, she kept telling me “Don’t worry everything will be fine, God has your back, he’ll do it.”

I have no choice, no one else will come to my aid except almighty God, I have faith that he will come through but deep down I’m scared.

DAY OF INTERVIEW

Walking into the interview hall with hundreds of other candidates, settled down as questions were distributed.

To my ultimate surprise, the first question I saw

“The young one of a Lion is called ——–?”

Oh my God! I could not bring myself to explain the emotions that ran through me at that very moment, these were the exact questions my daughter was asking me few days ago. The first question was preceded with about 20 similar questions.

After the interview, a lot of people couldn’t stop murmuring about how shocked they were to see such questions and also wondered how that was in any way related to engineering.
I had the oral interview and headed back home.

I shared what had happened with my wife , ‘You see God is wonderful.’ she said as she started to dance. I smiled but I was clinging to the string of hope for the job itself.

TWO WEEKS LATER

I got no call from the company, I also tried applying to a couple other companies but all kept letting me down. My family and I had been kicked out of our apartment and we were squatting in my in-laws’ house. I was starting to lose hope but I still have faith in God.

My phone rang for the 10th time that evening, I have been avoiding the call of my friend who I owed some money, I was out of excuses and was immersed in shame. The number was unfamiliar but I wasn’t sure if he dialed me with someone else’s phone.

I picked up the phone to apologize and ask for another extension, but to my surprise it was the call I had been waiting for. It was the shell company! I got the job!

Tears of joy rolled at all angles of the house that evening, finally God has done it, truly whoever has faith in him will never be put to shame.

Faith can move mountains!
